Elon Musk, Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO, has recently revealed that its updated Autopilot version will come out in December.

In response to a customer’s query on Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) on Sunday asking when shall the company release the Autopilot 8.1, Musk has noted that it will arrive in roughly three weeks. He has also emphasized that the new features will gradually be released, specifying monthly rollouts. This also fulfills the carmaker’s announcement earlier this year that all of its electric vehicles (EVs) will eventually be equipped with an all-new and improved Autopilot.

The updated Autopilot of Tesla Motors that will arrive in December boasts with up to eight cameras and 12 supersonic sensors, improving the autonomous driving capabilities of the company’s EVs. The power processing of the Autopilot will also be enhanced with the Autopilot 8.1.

“A new onboard computer with more than 40 times the computing power of the previous generation runs the new Tesla-developed neural net for vision, sonar and radar processing software,” explained Tesla Motors in a press release earlier this year.

Some of the most interesting features of the Autopilot 8.1 include automatic lane change, staying within a lane, adjusting speed in accordance to traffic condition, automatic freeway exit, self-parking, and many more that takes pride in convenience and valuable experience for drivers.

Autopilot 8.1 Availability

All new Tesla Motors EV will be compatible with the Autopilot 8.1. However, as Musk noted, those who buy or have bought these will still have to wait for a few more months before they get their hands on all of its features.

With the updated Tesla Motors Autopilot version coming out in December, the company’s EVs are widely expected to achieve a Level 5 or full autonomy status, which indicates that they can safely drive autonomously in all conditions and on all roads, sometime next year.

Tesla Motors has declined 0.27% on Monday, closing at $196.12. Meanwhile, Twitter has jumped 1.33%, closing at $18.30 during the said session.
